A hand-painted Viking shield featuring the great wolf Fenrir in Norse knotwork, his name emblazoned beneath the boss in Elder Futhark runes — a more compact version of Deepeeka's Fenrir design.
Fenrir is one of Norse mythology's three great tormentors, alongside Hel and the World Serpent Jörmungandr, all children of the trickster god Loki and the giantess Angrboða. Fearing his monstrous strength, the gods bound Fenrir with Gleipnir, a magical fetter forged from impossible things, sacrificing the war-god Týr's hand to trick the wolf into accepting it. Fenrir remains bound until Ragnarök, when he breaks free and devours Odin, before being slain in turn by Odin's son Víðarr.
Deepeeka's reproduction is built from stout plywood, its rim bound in tightly stitched rawhide and its face hand-painted, with an antiqued steel boss at the centre offering ample room for the hand and three riveted wooden reinforcing bars on the reverse, the central one leather-wrapped as the grip.
