  The chastity belt is one of the most enduring images of the medieval period in popular imagination — a locked metal device supposedly worn to guarantee fidelity while a knight was away at war. Modern historians, however, have found no credible medieval evidence for its real use: the earliest known reference appears only in 1405, in a treatise on siege engines that most scholars read as satire rather than a genuine account of military equipment.   Short Muscle Cuirass, Gorgon Medallion (Lorica Musculata)

  The muscle cuirass, or lorica musculata, sculpted a warrior’s torso into the idealised heroic physique first developed by Greek armourers and adopted across the Roman world as a mark of rank. This shorter form, ending above the waist, carries a central Gorgon’s head medallion — a protective motif frequently seen on the armour of officers and commanders in Greco-Roman art. Rather than standard-issue kit for the legionary ranks, this style of cuirass was worn by senior officers, generals, and, in artistic depiction, emperors and deities, projecting heroic and divine authority.
