This breastplate is crafted from 18-gauge steel, its eye-catching engravings laboriously inscribed by hand and chisel across the trim and body of the piece, further embellished with brass edging studs for a genuinely regal finish. A pair of leather straps secures the fit.

Gladiator Shoulder Guard, Brass (Galerus)
SKU: AH6235BThe galerus was the single most distinctive piece of armour worn by the retiarius, the lightly-equipped “net-man” gladiator who fought with trident and net rather than sword and shield. Rising high over the left shoulder, it protected the neck and side of the head while leaving the fighter otherwise almost bare — no helmet, no greaves, no body armour beyond this one raised guard. Surviving examples from the gladiatorial barracks at Pompeii show the galerus was often decorated, weighing around two and a half pounds and fixed directly to the manica arm guard on the same side.
