A crossbow is a type of weapon based on the bow, consisting of a horizontal bow-like assembly, or prod, mounted on a stock and shooting projectiles called bolts or quarrels. The medieval crossbow was known by many regional names, most derived from the word ballista, the torsion siege engine it visually resembled.

This reproduction recreates the standard medieval crossbow form, a horizontal prod mounted on a stock, shooting bolts with genuinely more power per draw than a comparable hand bow, at the cost of a slower reload.
