This full display harness draws on the richly decorated suits of armour associated with Charles V and Philip II, today held in the Real Armeria, the royal armoury collection in Madrid. Each piece is worked in polished steel and iron, carrying bas-relief artwork and etched floral motifs across much of its surface, in keeping with the elaborate parade and ceremonial armour of the Spanish court. This style reflects armour as a statement of dynastic power as much as protection, made for a Habsburg court that could commission the finest armourers in Europe.

Spanish Morion Helmet
SKU: AH6782The morion is an open helmet used from the mid-16th through the early 17th century, characterised by a flat, upturned brim and a distinctive comb running front to back. This version is styled specifically after the Spanish tradition, worn extensively in North and South America during the era of Spanish colonial expansion. Though popularly linked to the earliest conquistadors, the morion actually came into wide Spanish use only from around the 1570s onward, decades after Cortes and Pizarro’s conquests.
