Primus Sutton Hoo Migration Era Sword (England, 6th–7th Century)

Primus Sutton Hoo Migration Era Sword (England, 6th–7th Century)

A historically grounded reproduction of the famed Sutton Hoo sword, representing elite Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship from the Migration Era.

This sword is inspired by the iconic Migration Era weapon discovered at Sutton Hoo in England, one of the most important archaeological finds associated with early Anglo-Saxon nobility. Dating to the late 6th to early 7th century, the original sword is believed to have belonged to a high-status individual, possibly King Rædwald of East Anglia.

The Sutton Hoo sword represents the height of early medieval craftsmanship, where weapons were not only tools of war but also symbols of power, authority, and prestige. The original blade was pattern-welded, a sophisticated forging technique that combined multiple iron and steel elements to produce both strength and distinctive surface patterns.

This reproduction captures the essential form and presence of the original, featuring a broad blade with gentle taper, designed primarily for cutting. The hilt is constructed using traditional multi-component assembly, with a wooden core and finely cast bronze fittings. Decorative elements reflect the style of early Anglo-Saxon metalwork, known for its intricate detail and symbolic significance.
