Roman Situla, Tinned Brass

This newly redesigned Roman cooking and eating bowl is based on numerous archaeological examples, manufactured from fairly heavy brass with a tinned interior to keep food away from the unpleasant taste and health effects of bare brass or bronze.

The situla served genuinely everyday purposes in Roman kitchens and at camp, used for cooking, eating, and general food storage, with tinning representing a real practical refinement documented in surviving Roman kitchenware.

This reproduction recreates that practical Roman vessel, part of our Roman heritage range.
