Retiarius Gladiator Equipment, Metal

The retiarius, or “net fighter,” was among the most distinctive classes of Roman gladiator, fighting with a weighted net, trident, and dagger rather than the sword and shield of most other gladiator types.

Unusually for a gladiator, the retiarius fought without a helmet and with minimal armour, relying on speed and evasion rather than heavy protection, typically pitted against a more heavily armoured secutor in a genuinely dramatic mismatch of styles that Roman audiences found compelling.

This reproduction is worked in metal, part of our Roman heritage range.
