  Italo-Corinthian Helmet, Brass

  The Italo-Corinthian helmet developed a distinctive silhouette after Italian warriors took to wearing the classical Corinthian helmet pushed up on the forehead, even in the thick of battle, for a clearer view and better hearing. This eventually transformed the once face-covering visor into a purely decorative feature, while the helmet itself came to be worn more like a cap than a fully enclosing helm.   Roman Centurion’s Helmet, Silver-Plated

  A centurion, commanding roughly eighty men within a Roman legion, was visually distinguished from the ordinary legionary by several marks of rank, and his helmet was chief among them. A transverse (side-to-side) crest, rather than the front-to-back crest of common soldiers, immediately identified a centurion at a glance, even across the chaos and dust of a legion on the march or in formation. Silver plating and finer decorative detailing further set a centurion's equipment apart, a visible reflection of both his rank and the greater personal expense he was expected to bear for his own gear.

  Celtic “Port bei Nidau” Helmet

  This helmet is based on the Port bei Nidau find, an iron helmet recovered in remarkably intact condition from the River Thielle near Nidau, Switzerland, in the late 19th century. Dated to the 1st century BC and classified as a Late La Tène period piece, it originated among Gallic tribes of Eastern Gaul, its embossed eyebrow decoration and riveted neck guard becoming hallmarks of the type. This exact form was so effective that the Romans adopted it during Caesar's Gallic Wars, and it directly evolved into the Imperial Gallic Weisenau helmet — the classic Roman legionary helmet of the following centuries.
