  • Winged Spearhead, Standard, 11.25 Inches

    Winged Spearhead, Standard, 11.25 Inches

    SKU: AH7230H

The so-called winged, or lugged, spear is often associated with the Vikings but is actually of Frankish Carolingian origin, adopted by the Norse and continuing in use as both a war spear and hunting spear well into the high Middle Ages.

The wings, or lugs, projecting from either side of the socket served a genuinely practical dual purpose: preventing the spearhead from over-penetrating a strike (which would make it difficult to withdraw), and helping to parry an opponent’s weapon or hook a shield in close combat. This standard example measures 11.25 inches overall.

Deepeeka’s reproduction recreates that Carolingian and Viking-Age winged spearhead form, sold separately for mounting onto a haft of your choice.

  • Plumbata, Lead-Weighted Throwing Dart

    Plumbata, Lead-Weighted Throwing Dart

    SKU: AH4220N

The plumbata, a throwing dart with a weighted lead base, was favoured by Roman soldiers for its accuracy, range, and genuinely devastating impact at distance.

Carried several at a time and often clipped to the inside of a shield, plumbatae extended a soldier’s effective range beyond melee distance without the bulk of a full javelin, thrown overhand or underhand depending on the tactical situation, with the lead weighting giving real penetrating force despite the dart’s compact size.

Deepeeka’s reproduction is built from wood and mild steel, recreating that late Roman and early medieval throwing dart, part of our Roman heritage range.
