    Bowie Knife, Horn Handle

    The Bowie knife is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife that takes its name from Jim Bowie, who became famous for using a large knife of this kind in an 1827 duel known as the Sandbar Fight.

    That incident, on a Mississippi River sandbar near Natchez, cemented Bowie’s reputation and, within a few years, established “Bowie knife” as the name for the broad-bladed fighting and utility knives that became genuinely popular across the 19th-century American frontier. This version is finished with a horn handle, characterised by a large, broad blade.
