This sword is based on an original held in the National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen. Its wide, chopping-suited blade tapers to a point capable of a decisive thrust, a dual-purpose profile typical of the Viking Age’s most capable swords. A fuller runs the length of the blade’s spine — a deliberate weight-saving measure that let smiths draw out a longer, lighter blade without sacrificing the strength needed to survive a shield-wall clash. The hilt keeps to a restrained, functional silhouette: a short, small crossbar guard beneath a distinctive half-wheel pommel, a form that recurs across Scandinavian finds of the 9th and 10th centuries and marks this piece as belonging to the broader, well-documented family of Viking Age Norwegian swords.
