Forks reached Western Europe only slowly and controversially, first documented in Italy through an 11th-century Byzantine marriage and not widely accepted for centuries.   Medieval Skillet

  SKU: AH4385

  This skillet has been designed with the bygone medieval era in mind, though it works equally well for modern-day campers.

  Round-bottomed skillets were common medieval cookware, practical for a range of cooking methods over an open fire or bed of coals, simple enough in construction to have changed little in basic form across centuries. This reproduction has a round bottom and flat edges, suited to sitting directly over coals or resting on a cooking stand.

  Fire Striker, Birka Grave Pattern

  SKU: AH3955F

  A fire striker, or fire steel, is a piece of high-carbon steel struck against flint or similar hard stone to shave off tiny particles of metal that ignite as sparks, hot enough to catch tinder such as char cloth. This version is styled after fire strikers recovered from grave finds at Birka, Sweden, a major Viking-Age trading centre whose burials have yielded numerous genuine examples. Birka’s cemeteries have produced some of the most extensively documented fire strikers in Scandinavian archaeology.
