Description
Medieval Gorget with Collar
Derived from the French word ‘gorge,’ meaning throat, the gorget originated as a band of linen worn by women in the medieval period to wrap around the neck and head. Over time, it evolved into a protective collar made from steel or leather, designed to shield the throat, chest, and sometimes the neck, as part of a set or as a standalone piece of plate armor.
By the 18th century, the gorget transitioned from functional armor to an ornamental symbol, often featured in military uniforms. This particular gorget, crafted from durable 18-gauge steel, is an excellent choice for historical re-enactments.
Please note that due to the handcrafted nature of this item, steel thickness may slightly vary.
