Mace
A mace is a blunt weapon, a type of club or virge that uses a heavy head on the end of a handle to deliver powerful blows. A mace typically consists of a strong, heavy, wooden or metal shaft, often reinforced with metal, featuring a head made of iron or steel.
A heavy Ottoman Turkish flanged mace of the type used at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. These maces were used by Ottoman Janissary and Sipahi as both a weapon and a symbol of rank. This Turkish Mace is a robust mace crafted from steel and finished with a stitched leather grip and a leather wrist-retention strap. Although named a Turkish mace, maces similar to this simple, but effective form could be found throughout Eastern Europe, the Middle East and India.
