LYLE BASCINET (LATE 14TH CENTURY)
The Lyle Bascinet is based on an original housed at the Royal Armouries, representing a classic example of late 14th-century European armor.
Characterized by its distinctive “houndskull” visor, this helmet provided excellent deflection against blows while allowing adequate airflow through perforations. The elongated shape improved protection without compromising vision, making it a favored design among knights of the period.
This reproduction features a steel skull with a pivoting visor and decorative brass edging, faithfully capturing the appearance of the original. The helmet is designed to be worn with an aventail (mail curtain), as seen in historical examples.
It is suitable for reenactment, display, and educational use.
