  Lorica Segmentata, Adjustable Fit (Corbridge Type)

  The lorica segmentata is the most recognisable Roman military armour, its overlapping horizontal plates giving rise to the modern name meaning simply “armour in pieces.” Three main archaeological types are known — the early Kalkriese pattern from the site of the Varus disaster of 9 AD, the classic Corbridge type identified from a hoard found near Hadrian’s Wall in 1964, and the simplified, mass-produced Newstead pattern of the mid-2nd century onward. This reproduction follows the Corbridge form, the best-documented and most commonly reconstructed type, adjustable to fit chest sizes from 38 to 46 inches.

  King Breastplate, Hand-Engraved

  The single-piece steel breastplate emerged through the second half of the 14th century, replacing the coat of plates and mail hauberk as the standard torso defence of the late medieval knight, and this version reflects that form finished to a genuinely royal standard.

  This breastplate is crafted from 18-gauge steel, its eye-catching engravings laboriously inscribed by hand and chisel across the trim and body of the piece, further embellished with brass edging studs for a genuinely regal finish. A pair of leather straps secures the fit.

  Short Muscle Cuirass, Gorgon Medallion (Lorica Musculata)

  The muscle cuirass, or lorica musculata, sculpted a warrior’s torso into the idealised heroic physique first developed by Greek armourers and adopted across the Roman world as a mark of rank. This shorter form, ending above the waist, carries a central Gorgon’s head medallion — a protective motif frequently seen on the armour of officers and commanders in Greco-Roman art. Rather than standard-issue kit for the legionary ranks, this style of cuirass was worn by senior officers, generals, and, in artistic depiction, emperors and deities, projecting heroic and divine authority.

  Royal Muscled Cuirass with Belt, Blackened Steel (Lorica Musculata)

  This blackened steel muscle cuirass takes the classical lorica musculata form into a darker, more imposing register, its sculpted torso finished in black with contrasting solid brass accents at the shoulders and sides. Muscle cuirasses of this kind were the preserve of Roman commanders and, in art and statuary, of emperors and deities such as Mars — a style meant to project heroic and even divine authority rather than blend into the ranks. Paired with a fitted leather belt, the cuirass follows the practice of wearing the musculata over a padded subarmalis, with leather strapping distributing its weight for a genuinely wearable fit.
