The Falcata was the signature sidearm of the Celtiberian peoples of ancient Iberia, and its devastating effectiveness in combat against Roman forces is well documented in classical sources. The blade’s forward curve concentrates mass toward the tip, dramatically increasing the force of a downward cut — Roman soldiers who survived encounters with Falcata-wielding warriors described wounds of a severity rarely seen from conventional straight swords.
Multiple narrow fullers run along the spine of the blade in this reproduction, lightening it for combat while preserving structural strength. At the base, the blade widens to meet the hilt, where a steel bolster curves back to form a protective point, with two sections of wood riveted to the full-length tang completing the grip. This double-curved hilt design — narrowing then flaring again — helps protect the hand during powerful cutting strokes, while maximising palm contact for less fatiguing, more powerful blows.
