  Celtic “Port bei Nidau” Helmet

  This helmet is based on the Port bei Nidau find, an iron helmet recovered in remarkably intact condition from the River Thielle near Nidau, Switzerland, in the late 19th century. Dated to the 1st century BC and classified as a Late La Tène period piece, it originated among Gallic tribes of Eastern Gaul, its embossed eyebrow decoration and riveted neck guard becoming hallmarks of the type. This exact form was so effective that the Romans adopted it during Caesar's Gallic Wars, and it directly evolved into the Imperial Gallic Weisenau helmet — the classic Roman legionary helmet of the following centuries.

  Imperial Italic ‘B’ Auxiliary Helmet

  This helmet recreates the archetypical early Imperial Italic B type, standard-issue equipment for Roman auxiliary infantry.

  Its rounded bowl, brow reinforcement or “peak,” and narrow neck guard finished with a single embossed step are joined by an embossed “faux visor” and ear openings protected by a turned-out flange, worked in steel with brass trim. The best surviving original example of this helmet type is held in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.

  Primus Closed Burgonet Helmet (Europe, 17th Century)

  This closed burgonet combines the light, open-faced burgonet's high combed skull with the fuller facial protection of a close helmet — worth correcting directly here, since older listing copy filed this piece under 'Medieval,' when it is a genuine 17th century Renaissance-era form. The burgonet emerged in the early 16th century as the Medieval armet evolved into new Renaissance styles, and this closed variant represents a later hybrid development combining both traditions. Weighing as much as 20 pounds in genuine period examples, the closed burgonet was primarily worn by European cavalry seeking maximum protection.

  Nieder-Mörmter Helmet (Imperial Italic H)

  The Nieder-Mörmter helmet, classified by Robinson as Imperial Italic H, is considered one of the best-preserved Roman Imperial helmets to survive from antiquity. Its deep neck guard and occipital area (the rear-lower skull region) go well beyond typical Italic proportions, and its embossed — rather than simply riveted-on — cross-bracing gives it an unusually refined finish for a type Robinson otherwise associated with simpler construction. By this final stage of Italic development, craftsmanship had risen to match anything produced by the Gallic workshops, closing the gap that once defined the two traditions.
