Description
The hilt is cast in brass and carefully detailed to replicate the engraved ornamentation of the original artifact. The pommel is constructed in multiple sections, secured through traditional riveted assembly, while the grip is bound in leather over a hardwood core—true to early medieval construction techniques.
The blade is forged from EN45 high carbon steel and follows the classic Viking form: broad, parallel-edged, and optimized for powerful cutting. This geometry reflects the realities of early medieval warfare, where durability and cutting effectiveness were paramount.
The sword is paired with a wooden scabbard wrapped in deep red leather and finished with decorative brass fittings, including a suspension system that allows it to be worn from a belt or baldric.
The Hedeby sword is not merely a weapon—it is a reflection of a changing world, where identities, beliefs, and artistic styles merged at the edges of empires.
