Not every medieval fighter needed, or wanted, the full coverage of a fingered or mitten gauntlet. Half gauntlets offered a lighter alternative, protecting the more exposed back of the hand and wrist while leaving the fingers bare for tasks requiring real dexterity, whether drawing a bow, handling fine equipment, or simply for comfort during long periods of wear between engagements. This reproduction recreates that practical half-coverage form as a matched pair.
Medieval Half Gauntlets, Pair
Half gauntlets cover the back of the hand and wrist while leaving the fingers and palm free, trading some coverage for greater dexterity and comfort during extended wear. This lighter approach to hand protection suited wearers who needed to retain fine finger control for extended periods, such as archers or those handling delicate tasks between bouts of combat. Fully wearable, this pair recreates that practical, lightweight form of hand armour.
