A sword named for the Battle of Guinegate, fought in 1479 between French forces under Louis XI and the Burgundian-Habsburg army of Archduke Maximilian of Austria — a battle whose outcome helped shape the future of the Habsburg dynasty.

The Battle of Guinegate, fought on 7 August 1479, saw King Louis XI’s French cavalry launch a series of assaults against the Burgundian forces of Archduke Maximilian of Austria — assaults that were ultimately repelled by disciplined Flemish and German infantry drawn up in the innovative Swiss pike square formation, one of the first times this tactic was used by a non-Swiss power. The battle marked a turning point, demonstrating that well-drilled infantry could hold firm against traditional knightly cavalry, and it helped secure the Burgundian inheritance for the Habsburgs, a dynasty that would go on to dominate European politics for centuries.

Deepeeka’s reproduction is hand-forged from high-carbon steel with a long fuller running down just over two-thirds of the blade’s length, part of our Medieval heritage range.
