A full Gothic arm defence ran continuously from shoulder to wrist, and the section covering the forearm and elbow — the vambrace and its articulating couter — had to flex through a wide range of motion without opening gaps in coverage. German armourers achieved this through overlapping, hinged plates that moved with the joint, finished with the same lightly fluted surface treatment seen across the rest of the Gothic harness. Arm armour in a Gothic harness typically consisted of a vambrace covering the forearm and a couter articulating at the elbow, connecting the pauldron above to the gauntlet below. Together with the pauldron, this piece completed the protection of the arm, a limb that saw constant exposure in both mounted and foot combat. This 18-gauge steel reproduction follows the lightly fluted Gothic finish, articulated for genuine arm movement rather than fixed as a single rigid tube.
