  Grinding Stone (Quern), Working Replica

  This working replica recreates the traditional hard stone quern, its upper and lower wheels turned against each other by a wooden pin, with grain poured into the centre to be ground between them.

  Neolithic and Upper Palaeolithic peoples used millstones of this kind to grind grains, nuts, rhizomes and other plant foods for consumption, relying on saddlestones or rotary querns turned by hand well before mechanised milling existed. The same basic devices were also used to grind pigments and metal ores prior to smelting, making the quern one of the most versatile and enduring tools in early human technology.

  Vendel Period Amulet, 6th-7th Century Scandinavia

  This amulet recreates a form associated with the Vendel period of Scandinavia, the pre-Viking era of the 6th and 7th centuries AD that produced the famous boat-grave helmets related to England’s Sutton Hoo find.

  The Vendel period represents a genuinely rich but less commonly reproduced chapter of Scandinavian material culture, predating the Viking Age proper but foundational to the same broader Norse artistic and martial tradition.

  Brass Tri-Lobed Brooch, Antique Finish

  The fibula, best translated as “brooch,” served a genuinely practical purpose beyond decoration in the ancient and medieval world: in an age when many garments were simply sheets of fabric folded and pinned into shape, the fibula was the functional precursor to the safety pin, holding a cloak or tunic securely in place. Roman fibulae absorbed strong Celtic and Germanic decorative influence, and by the later Empire, styles such as the crossbow brooch had become a genuine symbol of civil and military authority, worn almost exclusively by men of rank.

  This tri-lobed brooch offers a distinctive three-part decorative form, a genuine variation on the basic fibula design documented across medieval brooch finds.
