This drinking horn carries a Horse Lords motif, reflecting the deep cultural importance horses held across Norse and wider Germanic society.
Drinking horns are among the oldest vessels in human history, used long before pottery or metal cups became widely available, since a hollowed animal horn was naturally watertight and required no firing or casting. They remained in genuine use well into the medieval period, especially at feasts, alongside carved wooden cups and mugs as everyday, accessible tableware. Horses served Norse society as transport, status symbols and figures of myth, from Odin’s own Sleipnir to the horse burials found across Viking-Age Scandinavia.
Deepeeka’s reproduction recreates that horse-themed drinking horn, sold without stand, part of our Norse heritage range.
