The Battle of Culloden, fought on 16 April 1746, was the final, decisive defeat of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, ending Bonnie Prince Charlie's attempt to reclaim the British throne for the exiled House of Stuart. Highland clansmen at the battle carried basket-hilted broadswords of exactly this type — a world and half a century away from the Napoleonic Wars of the early 1800s, a period this piece has no connection to despite some confusion in older product descriptions.
