A crossbow is a type of weapon based on the bow, consisting of a horizontal bow-like assembly, or prod, mounted on a stock and shooting projectiles called bolts or quarrels. The medieval crossbow was known by many regional names, most derived from the word ballista, the torsion siege engine it visually resembled.
This updated model reflects several genuine construction improvements: a lighter steel bow (prod), all-steel fittings, two-part rather than single-piece body construction, steel nuts in place of buffalo horn to prevent chipping, lighter and better-shaped triggers, and more practical stirrups.
