This standard recreates the distinctive lancehead carried by a Beneficiarii , a Roman soldier detached from ordinary duty for staff or administrative service under a senior officer or governor.

Rather than a fabric banner, the Beneficiarii carried a distinctively shaped, often perforated lancehead as a badge of office, examples of which have been recovered in real numbers from Roman provincial sites, sometimes dedicated as votive offerings at shrines. This reproduction is worked in carbon steel.

This reproduction recreates that specific Roman rank insignia.
