A historically grounded 15th century English rondel dagger, its rigid quadrangular blade purpose-built to find the gaps in an armoured opponent’s plate — a classic knightly sidearm of the Late Medieval battlefield.
The rondel dagger takes its name from the round (rondel) guard and pommel discs that bracket the grip, a design that let the wielder drive the dagger forward with the full strength of a fist closed around the grip, rather than a conventional handle. Its rigid, narrow blade was purpose-built to find the gaps and joints in plate armour, making it a standard sidearm for knights and professional soldiers across Europe from the 14th century onward — a tool of last resort when close enough to grapple an armoured opponent.
