This sword hilt was found in Kildonnan, Island of Eigg in Scotland. It is thought to date from the Viking period. The original sword is on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. The sword is classified as a Type D, in accordance to the Peterson Viking sword typology. It is dated to the 9th or early 10th century.
Our version of the sword features a double edge blade with wide central fuller. The grip, guard and pommel are made of cast bronze. The unsharpened blade is made of well tempered mild steel. It is completely usable for costume dressing and reenactment purposes.
